For this month’s show we enter the previously undiscovered dimensions of a truly unique artist and Detroit legend. The Anxious Beat had the most rare opportunity and pleasure to sit down for an interesting conversation with mind bending funk programmer and cosmic beat myth Erik Travis a.k.a. I.O.S. (Industry of Sound), Sound of Mind, Paradigm, The Other Side Of Space, and driving group member of Agency of X (Agency of Xtras), F.A.C.T. (Fantastic Acts Created Together) and Tic (short for Tico - nickname of former label head colleague Juan E. Ortiz). We get to learn about Erik’s beginnings how he started out listening to groups such as Kraftwerk, Funkadelic, Giorgio Moroder, Yellow Magic Orchestra and Slave back in the 80’s, DJing at his father’s and mother’s club called PL&M Lounge and how his creative way of recording and mixing tracks laid the foundation of his own unique style of music later on. He takes us on a generous walk through of some of his recording methods, the meaning behind some of his prior and future classic tracks, label history of F.A.C.T., BMC (Buchanan Music Company), TICO and present OTHOFACT, bootlegging awareness (Taking It All Ghetto Style) and his stance on the origin of the term techno. Erik also shares his thoughts on his experiences with the music industry both in and outside of Detroit, internet (music) companies, the amounts of confusing genre categories, future plans and much much more. We chose some of the sickest tracks from the very extensive Erik Travis catalog to accompany this 2 hour special including songs from his new bangin' and future classic double vinyl album "Legends".
