Half way between a beginners' guide and a deep dive, The Vocoder Pagoda is a monthly exploration of the vocoder and its contribution to music, up to the end of the 20th century.
From early voice-scrambling experiments with encoding and telecommunications, through to the democratisation of music technology at the turn of the Noughties, the show will be delving around in the sweet spot where robot voices = the future. Cross genre shenanigans spanning synth pop to 70s hairy rock/ electro to disco/ avant slop to hip hop. Backwards and forwards in the time machine which hovers around 1983.
