Resident Focus: Accidental Meetings

Accidental Meetings has fast become an essential and driving force in Bristol, London and the wider music scene. Georgia, Lucien, Sholto & Ciaran have built something truly inspiring — pushing boundaries wherever they can through their label and event series. We all owe so much to these guys, so have a read and get to know the people behind AM.

Tell us a little about Accidental Meetings, how did it begin, what does it mean to you?

AM

AM started up in Brighton nearly 5 years ago now, it originally was just a party but it’s now evolved into a podcast/mix series and label. I’d say it’s predominantly a label now - or at least that’s where most of our focus is. The parties have moved on to Bristol & London now with half of us living in each.

Brighton is a bit of a distant memory now, we definitely moved on quickly and now we're able to express ourselves a bit more freely with the curation side of things. It’s basically just a massive passion project, an outlet for all the really great stuff that’s going on in various scenes at the mo. It takes up a silly amount of time, but it is all worth it in the end.

Top three moments from an AM gig/night?

AM
  1. i-sha closing the Clever Dog LP launch party at Brew, powerful n emotional for a number of reasons.
  2. Getting a dissertation size email asking for refunds for one of our London shows.
  3. 3rd is tied between memotone and Coby Sey & band doing some of the best live performances we’ve seen.
N

What is inspiring you outside of music right now?

AM

Not a huge amount sadly

N

How do you curate the aesthetic of AM?

AM

The art-direction is 100% all Ciaran, ideas of certain formats be it books, post cards, clothing, on-body printing, extra booklets of CDs/Cassettes - it’s all him. There’s never really a brief for him and he’ll go from the music and where he sees the identity/aesthetic of AM at that time. We’re super lucky to have apart of the team tbh, he’s one of the best out there and it’s a perfect project for him to truly express his vision for AM. Eternal big ups to him!
